Mountain weather at Goderdzi Pass changes quickly: a calm, misty morning can turn to snowfall by midday, as it did on 1 February 2026. Winter temperatures are usually −5 to −12 °C, and heavy snowfalls come from December to March, sometimes 50-75 cm in one night. Strong wind and fog can close the upper chairlift, and after a big snowfall the road from Batumi is usually cleared by the next morning. How much snow does Goderdzi get?
The first snow falls between late October and early December: on 26 October in 2024 and on 1 December in 2025. A single snowfall can bring 50-75 cm overnight: 60 cm fell on 13 January 2026, and about a metre in the night before 30 December 2025. The 2024/25 season was snowier; in 2025/26 the snow came late, but in spring there was more of it than usual.
When is the best time to ski in Goderdzi?
February is a reliable month for a ski holiday: the snow cover is stable and both lifts usually run, and from mid-January conditions are generally settled. In March the snow is firm in the morning and softens in the afternoon sun, so start early; fresh snowfalls still come, as on 10 March 2026. Late December depends on the first big snowfall.
Does bad weather close the lifts?
Sometimes. Strong wind or thick fog can close the upper Chanchakhi chairlift, while the Zanka gondola from the base usually keeps running. Conditions on the slope can differ from the forecast, so check the live data at the top of this page before you head up.
Is the Goderdzi Pass open in winter?
The road from Batumi to the resort is cleared all winter. The pass road beyond the resort, towards Akhaltsikhe, is closed from about mid-December to late April. The "Goderdzi Pass Closed" sign on the way out of Batumi refers to that section: you can still drive to Goderdzi ski resort.
